Stephanie Richter

Hi I’m Steph (she/her), living and working on unceded land of the Wurundjeri in Naarm (Melbourne). I work across lens-based, cameraless and alternative photographic techniques, photobook and printmaking. Hybrid processes are my jam.

Over the past year I have been exploring alternative photographic processes within my domestic environment. Using the sun, a range of light-sensitive materials, plants, objects and detritus from around my house. This exploration produced the series 'Capturing light: backyard experiments in lumen printing' a hand-made photobook that won the 'Best use of natural light' award at the 2017 CCP Salon, the 25th iteration of the annual open-entry competition and exhibition.  To see my works (and works-in-progress) see the PROJECTS menu.

I have 10 years experience as the Education & Public Programs Coordinator at MGA: the Australian home of photography. Alongside my role at MGA, I taught a range of Diploma and Cert IV level Photo Imaging units to a diverse cohort of students at Melbourne Polytechnic and Chisholm Institute. I founded and coordinate the Melbourne branch of the Photobook Club which has recently reached the milestone of five years of bi-monthly meetups for a total of 25 events.

I love to travel and experience new cultures, and make a few photographs while I’m there! Check out my travel pics under the DESTINATIONS menu.
